About this tool

A watermark is a repeated visual marker layered over a document's content — a company name, "DRAFT", "CONFIDENTIAL" — that discourages unauthorised copying and makes the source of a leaked or shared file traceable at a glance. It doesn't touch the underlying text or images; it's drawn as a separate, semi-transparent layer on top.

How to use it

  1. Upload a PDF and type the watermark text.
  2. Choose an opacity: low enough that the document underneath stays readable, but visible enough to serve its purpose. 20–30% is a common starting point.
  3. Pick a rotation angle — 45° is the classic diagonal watermark look, 0° prints it horizontally.
  4. Toggle "Tile across page" on to repeat the text in a grid covering the whole page (harder to crop out), or off for a single centred stamp.
  5. Optionally limit the watermark to specific pages, e.g. "1-3, 5".

Examples

Marking a draft contract

Text: DRAFT — NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION, opacity 25%, rotation 45°, tiled
Every page shows a repeated, semi-transparent diagonal "DRAFT — NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION" pattern, with the original text still fully readable underneath.

Common problems

The watermark is too dark and makes the document hard to read.
Lower the opacity — 15–25% is usually enough to be visible without competing with the underlying text for attention.
I only want the watermark on some pages.
Use the page range field, e.g. "2-4" to skip a cover page, or "1" to mark only the first page.
