About this tool

A raw list of transactions answers "what happened" one row at a time; a pivot table answers "how much, broken down by X and Y" in one glance. This builds one from a spreadsheet without needing the spreadsheet app it usually lives in.

How to use it

  1. Upload an Excel or CSV file.
  2. Pick which field becomes rows, which becomes columns, which gets aggregated, and how (sum, count, average, min or max).
  3. The pivot table renders with row and column totals; download it as Excel.

Examples

Sales by region and month

Rows: region, Columns: month, Value: amount, Aggregation: sum
A grid of total sales per region per month, with a totals row and column.

Common problems

Every cell shows 0 even though the source data clearly has values.
Check that the value field actually holds numbers — text that isn't a valid number (like a currency symbol baked into the cell) is read as 0 for sum/average/min/max, though it's still counted correctly under the "count" aggregation.
