About this tool

An Excel workbook is a binary(-ish) file format with sheets, formulas and formatting — CSV and JSON are both plain text with none of that. Moving data between them means picking one sheet, deciding whether the first row is a header, and flattening everything else into rows of plain values.

How to use it

  1. To read an Excel file: upload it, pick the sheet if it has more than one, choose whether the first row is a header, and pick CSV or JSON as the output.
  2. To build an Excel file: switch to "CSV/JSON → Excel", paste an array of JSON objects or CSV rows, name the sheet, and download the generated .xlsx.

Examples

A product list sheet

A sheet with columns SKU, Name, Price
[{"SKU":"A100","Name":"Widget","Price":9.99}, …] as JSON, or the equivalent CSV.

Common problems

A formula cell shows the formula text instead of its calculated value.
The calculated value is what gets read — if you see the formula itself, the cell may be formatted as text rather than a formula, which Excel treats differently on export.
My workbook has multiple sheets and only one converted.
Pick the sheet you need from the sheet selector that appears after upload — only one sheet is converted at a time, since CSV and a single JSON array both represent one flat table.
