About this tool

Compressing an image re-encodes it at a lower quality so the file gets smaller — useful for faster page loads, email attachments and upload limits. Choosing WebP usually gives the smallest file at a given quality.

This tool works entirely in your browser on a canvas; the image is never uploaded, and you see the before/after size before downloading.

How to use it

  1. Add a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Pick an output format — WebP is usually smallest, JPEG is the most compatible.
  3. Drag the quality slider (lower = smaller file).
  4. Compress, compare the sizes and download.

Common problems

PNG output did not get smaller.
PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply. For photos, switch the output to JPEG or WebP for a real size reduction.
The image looks blocky.
You lowered the quality too far. Raise the slider until the artefacts disappear.
