Subtitle Converter & Sync

Convert subtitles between SRT and VTT, and shift every timestamp by a fixed offset to fix sync.

About this tool

SRT and VTT encode the same idea — timed text — with small but incompatible differences (a comma versus a period in the timestamp, VTT's required header). A subtitle that's drifted out of sync usually needs the same fix applied to every single line, which is exactly the tedious part a script handles better than a text editor's find-and-replace.

How to use it

  1. Paste or upload an SRT or VTT file — the format is detected automatically.
  2. Pick the output format and, if the subtitles are out of sync, an offset in milliseconds (negative to shift earlier).
  3. Copy or download the converted, resynced result.

Examples

Fixing subtitles that lag by 2.5 seconds

An SRT file with subtitles appearing too late, offset -2500
Every timestamp shifted 2.5 seconds earlier — the same SRT, back in sync with the video.

Common problems

The offset makes some subtitles disappear entirely.
A cue shifted before 00:00:00 is clamped to zero rather than going negative — several subtitles very early in the file, all shifted earlier by a large offset, can end up stacked at the very start. This is usually a sign the offset is larger than actually needed.
