About this tool

Two versions of an image usually differ in ways worth seeing precisely — a resize, a filter, a re-export at lower quality. Side-by-side is fastest for a quick look; a slider makes small differences obvious; a pixel-diff overlay finds the ones neither format catches by eye.

How to use it

  1. Upload two images.
  2. Switch between Side by Side, Slider (drag to reveal one over the other) and Pixel Diff modes.
  3. In Pixel Diff mode, download the highlighted difference image if needed.

Examples

Checking a re-compressed export

An original PNG and a re-saved JPEG of the same image
Pixel Diff mode highlights the compression artifacts in red, with a percentage of pixels that changed.

Common problems

Pixel Diff highlights almost the entire image, even though it looks the same.
The two images likely differ in dimensions — one gets padded onto a white canvas the size of the larger one rather than stretched, so if their actual pixel dimensions don't match, the padding itself reads as a difference. Resize one to match the other before comparing pixel-for-pixel.
