About this tool

Two versions of the same document usually differ in ways worth seeing precisely — a clause reworded, a number updated, a page inserted. Text mode diffs the actual words page by page; visual mode renders both pages as images and highlights every pixel that changed, which catches layout and formatting differences text alone would miss (and is the only option for a page with no selectable text at all).

How to use it

  1. Upload the original and the modified PDF.
  2. Choose Text differences to see word-level changes per page, or Visual differences to see a rendered image with changes highlighted in red.
  3. Press Compare. In visual mode, navigate page by page — each page is rendered and diffed only when you view it.

Examples

A contract revision

Two versions of a 5-page PDF with one paragraph reworded on page 3
Text mode: page 3 shown with the removed wording struck through and the new wording highlighted; pages 1, 2, 4 and 5 marked unchanged.

Common problems

Visual mode shows the whole page highlighted red, even for a tiny change.
The two pages likely differ in size or the content shifted position (a paragraph added earlier in the page pushes everything after it down) — a pixel-by-pixel diff has no way to know that's the same content moved, only that a different pixel is there now. Text mode reads the actual words regardless of position and won't have this problem.
