About this tool

Three temperature scales are in everyday use: Celsius (most of the world), Fahrenheit (United States and some other countries) and Kelvin (science). Converting between them requires a formula, not just a ratio, because the zero points differ.

This converter updates all three values simultaneously as you type, so you never have to remember which direction the formula goes.

How to use it

  1. Type a value into any of the three fields.
  2. The other two update instantly.
  3. The reference section below the inputs shows common temperatures as a sanity check.

Examples

Body temperature

37°C
98.6°F / 310.15K

Freezing point

0°C
32°F / 273.15K

Common problems

I entered a temperature in Kelvin and got a negative Celsius value.
Temperatures below 273.15K are below 0°C (below freezing). That is correct — absolute zero (0K) is −273.15°C.
