About this tool

The number on the listing is not your revenue. Between the buyer's payment and your bank balance sit the marketplace commission, the shipping cost, packaging, and the VAT you collected on behalf of the tax authority and will hand over.

This calculator separates all of them. It removes VAT from the selling price to get the revenue that is actually yours, charges commission on the gross price the way marketplaces bill it, subtracts every cost, and reports the net profit alongside the margin it represents.

How to use it

  1. Enter the selling price the buyer pays, VAT included.
  2. Enter what the item costs you to buy or produce.
  3. Set the commission rate from your marketplace agreement — it varies by category, not just by platform.
  4. Add shipping, packaging and any other per-order expense such as a payment fee or a returns allowance.
  5. Set the VAT rate that applies to the product.

Examples

A 500 ₺ listing with 20% commission

Revenue excluding 20% VAT is 416.67. Commission is 100 on the gross price. With 200 cost, 40 shipping and 10 packaging, the total cost is 350 and the net profit is 66.67 — a 16% margin.

Price 500 · cost 200 · commission 20% · shipping 40 · packaging 10 · VAT 20%
Net profit 66.67 · margin 16%

Common problems

The margin looks lower than expected.
Most likely VAT. A 500 ₺ price at 20% VAT is 416.67 ₺ of revenue — the remaining 83.33 was never yours. Comparing profit against the gross price overstates the margin.
The real payout is lower than the figure here.
Marketplaces deduct more than headline commission: payment processing, service fees, campaign participation, sometimes shipping subsidies. Add them under other expenses.
Profit disappears once returns are counted.
A return costs you the outbound shipping, the return shipping and often the packaging. Spread that over your orders as a per-order allowance and enter it as an expense.
