About this tool

A Base64 data URL embeds an entire image as text — inside a CSS file, an email template, or an API response. Getting the actual image file back out means decoding that text and reconstructing the binary data, which browsers don't have a built-in "save as" for.

How to use it

  1. Paste a full data URL (starting with data:image/…) or a bare Base64 string.
  2. If the string doesn't include a data URL prefix, pick the format it should decode as.
  3. Preview the result, then download it as a real image file.

Examples

A data URL

data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAA…
Decoded and shown as a PNG image, ready to download as image.png.

Common problems

The preview shows a broken image icon.
Check that the fallback format actually matches the data — a string encoded as a JPEG won't decode correctly if you select PNG, since the two formats' bytes mean different things.
